Cody Lenahan smacked a three-run bases clearing double to left center field to give Portland a 3-0 lead over K-State in the top of the second inning, and the Pilots carried that on to a 5-2 victory over the Cats on Thursday afternoon at Louis Gisto Field in Moraga, CA. Caleb Whalen added a pair of solo homers for Portland in the win.

The Cats put runners on base throughout the game, but hit into five double plays, including one to end the game. A pair of fourth inning runs were driven in by Tanner DeVinny with a double to right field and a sacrifice fly by Mitch Meyer. DeVinny and Austin Fisher had a multi-hit day for K-State (0-5).

Levi MaVorhis (0-1) took the loss in the longest outing of his career, giving up five earned runs over six innings on six hits, with a walk and three strikeouts. Jackson Lockwood (2-0) took the win for Portland in 5 2/3 innings of three-hit relief.

K-State baseball will continue the Gael Tournament on Friday afternoon at 4:00pm against host St. Mary’s. The BD4 Distributing/Cary Company pregame show begins at 3:30 on NewsRadio 1350 KMAN.
