Updated Monday Morning:Details were released Monday morning regarding a house fire reported Saturday morning at 1204 Bluemont Avenue. Upon arrival, crews found a two story residential structure with fire on the exterior of the structure, on the south
and west sides.
The fire was quickly extinguished, with fire damage contained to the exterior of the structure.
Six fire apparatus and sixteen firefighters responded to the fire with the last units clearing at around 2:55pm. Westbound Bluemont Avenue was closed for a short period of time while crews extinguished the fire.
The two story house is rented by five people with two of them
being home at the time of the incident. The residents were alerted of the fire by a passerby who stopped and knocked on the door. Both occupants were able to exit the structure without injuries. Loss is estimated at $20,000 to the structure and $1,000 to contents. The owner is listed as Larry Ness of Manhattan, Kansas and the cause of the fire was determined to be discarded smoking materials.

On Bluemont Avenue, Saturday morning, the Manhattan Fire Department responded to a fire along side the Bluemont hotel.
Crews were able to get the fire under control.
