On Monday, March 10, a guardrail improvement project will begin on a .5-mile mile stretch of U.S. 24 approximately one mile northwest of the K-113 and U.S. 24 intersection in Riley County. Project work includes the removal of the existing guard cable fence, grading work and installation of new guardrail.
Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday.Beginning onMonday, March 10, the westbound U.S. 24 right lane and eastbound U.S. 24 outside shoulder will be closed through the project work zone, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration.
Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via cones and signage. Drivers should expect minimal traffic impacts throughout the project duration.
The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone. J and J Contractors, Inc. (Iola, KS) is the primary contractor on this guardrail improvement project with a total contract cost of $143,245.
Overall project work is scheduled to be completed in mid- to late April 2014, weather permitting.
