K-State senior Ross Kivett became just the third player in school history to hit for the cycle on Wednesday night in a 12-6 victory over Nebraska at Tointon Family Stadium. Kivett blasted a solo home run in the first inning, cleared the bases with a two-run triple in the second, doubled in the third, and sent a single up the middle in the sixth. The last Wildcat to hit for the cycle was Manhattan High grad Heath Schesser on April 30, 1997 against Bethany College. The Broadview Heights, OH native also hit the first leadoff home run by a Wildcat since Jordan Cruz on February 22, 2008 at California.
Blair DeBord continued to break out of a slow offensive start with a three-hit night against the Huskers. Shane Conlon and Austin Fisher also had multi-hit efforts for K-State. Nebraska star Ryan Boldt had a 4-for-4 night with an RBI and run scored.
K-State redshirt freshman Colton Kalmus (2-0) earned the win on the mound, going five innings and surrendering just one earned run on seven hits. He struck out three and walked just one. Nebraska’s Ben Miller (0-1) took the loss after lasting just an inning and a third, as the Cats piled up six runs on six hits.
K-State will play at the home of the College World Series this weekend, TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska, against the Creighton Bluejays. The three-game series opens on Friday night at 6:30pm, with the BD4 Distributing/Cary Company pregame show at 6:00 on NewsRadio 1350 KMAN.
