The Wamego man charged in connection with the December shooting at Quality Inn and Suites appeared in Pottawatomie County District Court Tuesday.
Dustin Monroe (33) appeared in District Court Judge, Jeff Elder’s courtroom with his attorney, Lora Ingels.
Ingels indicated some plea negotiations have started, but they have not yet reached a set agreement. She asked that the case be set for preliminary hearing, and asked for bond reduction.
Ingels pointed out Monroe has two children, has no prior felonies and owns his own business. She mentioned he understands it was a dangerous situation, but says Monroe admits it was due to drugs and he needs treatment. She asked that his bond, of $250,000, be reduced to $25,000.
Prosecuting State Attorney, Sherri Schuck did not seem to want the bond reduction, but did say if the bond is reduced, she would like Monroe to have weekly check-ins with supervised probation officers.
Judge Elder approved of the bond reduction to $25,000 cash or commercial. He did agree with Schuck that Monroe will need to meet with officers weekly. Elder also wanted officers to check Monroe’s home and business to confirm they are free of contraband and firearms before the bond will officially be reduced.
Monroe’s case was also set for a preliminary hearing, which Schuck advised would take all day. The hearing will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 25th.
