On the weekend of March 7, 2014 to March 9, 2014, the Riley County Police Department with assistance from the Junction City Police Department, Emporia Police Department, Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Hays Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol responded to several calls for service in relation to the Fake Patty’s Day 2014 event. Other emergency agencies were also present and responded to calls for service as well as participated in proactive safety measures. These agencies included the Manhattan Fire Department and Riley County EMS.

Over the weekend period of March 7, 2014 at 7:00 PM to March 9, 2014 at 6:00 AM, the Riley County Police Department responded to 234 calls for service (generated by citizen complaints and not including officer initiated calls for service). These complaints consisted of, but are not limited to, parking problems (35), disturbing the peace (23), unwanted subjects (18), and welfare checks (22).

During this 35 hour time period police responded to 6 violent crimes including battery (4), strong-arm robbery (1) and a report of rape (1). Police officers in total filed 164 criminal reports.

As a result of all agencies present in the Manhattan area during this time period 73 persons were physically arrested. Crimes that caused arrest included, but are not limited to, disorderly conduct (29), DUI (21), unlawful possession by minors (6), and drug offenses (5).

Police issued 541 citations to Fake Patty’s Day participants for offenses that included, but are not limited to, possession of an open container of alcohol (229), parking issues (156), and possession of alcohol by a minor (100).

The Riley County Police Department would like to thank the businesses and volunteers involved in creating and maintaining a well-organized Command Post, as well as the agencies who provided assistance during this event. This police response could not have been possible without the assistance of the City of Manhattan as well as Riley County Emergency Management, Fort Riley, the Riley County Juvenile Intake, and Community Corrections.
