K-State jumped all over arch-rival Kansas with a five-run first inning to take game one from the Jayhawks 10-0 at Tointon Family Stadium Friday night.
The Wildcats sent ten batters to the plate in the first, with the big blow being a three-run home run from freshman Tanner DeVinny. R.J. Santigate also had an RBI single in the frame.
Meanwhile, K-State starter Levi MaVorhis retired the first 15 batters he faced and finished with his second complete game shutout of the season. KU’s Ryan Pidhaichuck finally broke up MaVorhis’s bid for a perfect game with a single to center on the first pitch of the sixth inning. Twice this year MaVorhis has been perfect through at least five innings of a game.
K-State continued to tack on runs to their lead throughout the game, scoring one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings along with two runs in the eighth.
First pitch for game two on Saturday is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Tointon Family Stadium. K-State will send senior Jared Moore to the mound to face Kansas’s Robert Kahana. Pregame coverage starts at 1:30 on KMAN.
