With the West Stadium Center now complete and fully operational, Kansas State University is set to take the next step in the master plan for Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
Just before kickoff of Saturday afternoon’s Purple and White Spring Football game, Athletics Director John Currie unveiled the plans for the $65 million renovation of the Vanier Football Complex which will be known as the North Stadium Project. A video which accompanies this story was shown to fans in attendance.
Construction of the facility will begin after the Wildcats’ final home game against Kansas on November 29 with substantial completion by the start of the 2015 season. The project will involve tearing down the entire Vanier Football complex and replacing it. The new facility will feature a new Academic Learning Center, more than twice the size of the current facility, a new Olympic-Quality Strength and Conditioning Facility, a nutrition center as well as a Sports Medicine and Recovery Facility.
The new North seating bowl will include new ADA seating and will be connected to both the east and west side concourses something that has been lacking on the north side of the stadium for a long time. There will also be new overall seating including some enclosed seating above the outdoor seats, a new scoreboard and new video boards on the Northwest and Northeast corners. The Northeast section which will include the video board, visiting team locker rooms as well as training and officials areas will be completed by either 2016 or 2017 The project will be led by world-renowned sports design firm Populous in conjunction with the Construction Management team of Mortenson and GE Johnson Construction.
