A fire at 702 South Juliette Avenue brought Manhattan firefighters out Monday evening.
At 6:20 p.m. the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire. Upon arrival crews found a one story residential structure with heavy smoke and fire showing. Crews entered the structure and extinguished the flames, while other firefighters prevented the apartment building next door from catching fire. The fire reached a second alarm before it was contained within 30 minutes.
There were 21 firefighters that responded on 5 fire apparatus, with the last units clearing at approximately 11:00 p.m. South Juliette Avenue between Fort Riley Boulevard and Pottawatomie Avenue was closed approximately three hours due to the fire.The building is a single family attached dwelling with two residences.
Both units were occupied at the time of the fire and the residents were able to escape prior to the Fire Department arrival. One resident suffered minor burns while trying to extinguish the blaze. The loss is estimated at $110,000 to the structure and $50,000 for the contents of 702 South Juliette Avenue, with the owner listed as Kelly Johnson. The loss is estimated at $25,000 to the structure and $10,000 for the contents of 700 South Juliette Avenue, with the owner listed as Jarod Hyde. The total loss for this incident is listed at $195,000.
The fire cause is under investigation at this time.

KMAN learned that the Manhattan Fire Department was able to control an attic fire in 700 block of South Juliette Avenue.
