While neither team brought home a State Championship on Friday both the Manhattan High Indians and the Rock Creek Mustangs turned in strong showings at their respective Baseball tournaments.

The Indians fell to Maize 3-1 in the Class 6A State Semifinals 3-1 to Maize on Friday afternoon at Hoglund Ballpark in Lawrence before bouncing back to take the Consolation Game by a 3-1 margin over Wichita Northwest. Don Hess’s ball club finished the season with a school-record 22 wins and finished the 2014 campaign with a 22-3 record. Maize fell to Blue Valley in the Championship game Friday night 9-3.

The Rock Creek Mustangs fell just short in their bid for the Class 3A State title as they were nipped by Wellsville 2-1 in the Championship game. The Mustangs had earned the right to play for the title earlier Friday with a stunning 16-3 blowout of previously unbeaten Council Grove, capping off the victory with an 11-run rally in the seventh inning.
