    RCPD Honors Local Law Enforcement

The Riley County Police Department held its annual memorial service Friday honoring officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

“It has been said that man has no greater love than to give his life for another. So here we attempt to honor those who have given the greatest gift of all, the law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty in Riley County and throughout the nation,” said Robert Boyd, RCPD police captain.

Friday’s ceremony also recognized the hard work and dedication that active law enforcement officers display in their service to the community.

“Through your dedication to integrity, you have commanded respect each and every day in ways great and small,” said Derek Schmidt, Kansas attorney general. “So it’s appropriate to come together once a year and say thank you to each and every one of you who serve today and to your family and friends who support you.”

Thankfully, only six peace officers in Riley County have lost their lives in the line of duty since 1866.

Several law enforcement agencies were represented Friday including Fort Riley Military Police, the Junction City, K-State, and Wamego Police Departments, Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Bureau of Investigations and the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
