The Texas Longhorns advanced to the 2014 College World Series in Omaha after winning the first two games in their Super Regional against Houston. Texas defeated the Cougars 4-2 in the opening game Friday night, and completed the sweep with a 4-0 shutout on Saturday.
The news was not good for Oklahoma State; after falling to UC-Irvine 8-4 in the opening game, the Cowboys’ season ended in a 1-0 defeat to the Anteaters Saturday.
As for Texas Tech and TCU, both teams won their respective openers; the Red Raiders shut out College of Charleston 1-0 on Saturday, while the Horned Frogs took down Pepperdine 3-2. Both teams can punch their tickets to Omaha on Sunday…Texas Tech plays at 2:00pm, and TCU at 5:00pm.
The Big 12 sent four teams, or one quarter of the field of sixteen, to the Super Regional round for the first time in league history. Additionally, all four conference teams were hosts. This also marks just the second time since the NCAA started using the Super Regionals that one conference has sent four teams. The ACC sent four in 2013.
