On Saturday at Rock Creek High School Republican candidates gathered to meet with the community, and outline their positions before the primary run off in August.
Pottawatomie County Republican Women sponsored the event, and organization president Rosemary Loucks said it was important for voters and candidates to meet face to face. Loucks said it is imperative that voters know where the candidates stand on the issues to make a more informed decision in the upcoming elections.
After the respective forums community members gathered in the foyer to ask further questions, and meet with the candidates and other representatives. The forum seemed to run very smoothly, but one unidentified man seemed upset he was not allowed to talk at the event due to arriving late for his portion of the debates. He shouted that he’d been blackballed by the event organizers and left the venue.
One of the highly contested races includes the Republican candidates vying for the position of Kansas Insurance Commissioner. Four of the five candidates squared off, and answered questions from the crowd and gave their positions on a variety of topics including the Affordable Care Act, and how their backgrounds made them the right candidate moving forward into the future as wide sweeping changes are about to take place on a national level.
