Manhattan sales tax receipt numbers are down compared to the forecast. The latest numbers for July, which actually reflect two months prior, show $905,241 collected, which is $57,985 lower than the forecast and $32,521 less than the budget.
Manhattan Finance Director Bernie Hayen describes the numbers as “somewhat monotonous,” indicating the sales tax reports have been up one month and down the next. Hayen adds the numbers are relatively “flat” when compared to 2012 and 2013, and says there is nothing to report in terms of any major retail shifts or changes.
Last month’s numbers were $37,101 more than forecast and $43,483 higher than the budget.
January through July numbers for this year are $6,127,975, more than last year’s six month numbers of $6,084,228. 2012 numbers were the most impressive though, with $6,185,565.
