A major upset was scored Tuesday with challenger Ben Wilson defeating incumbent Dave Lewis in the race for Riley County Commissioner in District one. With all Riley County Precincts reporting Wilson garnered 615 votes for 52 percent of the vote to Lewis’ 549 votes or 47 percent. Over in Pottawatomie County, the race was still too close to call as of late Tuesday night between incumbent Commissioner Gary Yenzer and challenger Dee McKee as the lead was changing hands frequently. Three-term U.S. Senator Pat Roberts won Riley County and also won the statewide race on the Republican side for U.S. Senate and he will be challenged this Fall by Chad Taylor who won the Democratic Primary.

Former Manhattan mayor Jim Sherow easily won the Democratic nomination for the 1st Congressional District and will go up against either incumbent Tim Huelskamp or his challenger Alan LaPolice as that race remained too close to call. Republican Governor Sam Brownback won his Primary over challenger Jennifer Winn setting up a showdown with Democrat Paul Davis this Fall. Results from Tuesday’s election are listed below
