This was the sixth year for the Speedy PD Race for Parkinson’s disease. This year’s event was held at Tuttle Creek State Park, and an estimated 500 participants ran, walked or rode their bike this year.
Registration and packet pick-up was held the day prior, at the Holiday Inn at the Campus. On Saturday, additional registration and packet pick-up took place at the race site.
The 5K and 10K races began at 8 a.m., while the half-mile family fun run/walk started at 9:15 a.m.
Awards were handed out at 9:30 a.m., and individuals with Parkinson’s Disease worked on pictures and paintings that were presented to each of the winners.
BBQ and beer was available for racers, and their families to enjoy, which was sponsored by Cox Brothers BBQ and Budweiser.
Several venders were set up in the state park, to provide runners with massages, water, and fruits and vegetables.
All proceeds from the event went to the Meadowlark Hills Parkinson Fund. The fund allows the leaders of the Parkinson’s Program of Manhattan at Meadowlark Hills, to provide services for the community to improve the quality of life for all those affected by the disease: patients, caregivers, therapists and nurses.
