Highway 24 Closure in Pottawatomie County

Still no details regarding an accident in Pottawatomie county KMAN first told you about early Sunday morning. The Kansas Department of Transportation announced at five a.m. Sunday that highway 24 was closed east of Wamego from Old Military Road to Topeka due to a head-on crash. The road was closed for three hours, with detours provided for motorists.

A spokesman with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s office confirmed his agency worked the accident, but indicated no further details were available at this time.

From the Kansas Department of Transportation:

UPDATE…as of 8:00am, eastbound and westbound US-24 east of Wamego (Pottawatomie County) from Old Military Rd to Topeka (Shawnee County) is NOW OPEN to all traffic! Traffic incident has been cleared and roadway has been returned to normal operations.

This according to KDOT spokesperson Kimberly Qualls.

As of 5:00 a.m. Sunday, October 5, eastbound and westbound US-24 east of Wamego (Pottawatomie County) from Old Military Rd to Topeka (Shawnee County) CLOSED to all traffic due to head-on crash. Estimated reopening: 3-4 hrs.

Detour routes: Eastbound US-24 traffic to detour via southbound K-99 to eastbound I-70 to northbound US-75 back to eastbound US-24  in Topeka/Shawnee County. Westbound US-24 traffic to detour via southbound US-75 in Topeka to westbound I-70 to northbound K-99 back to westbound US-24.

Drivers should expect delays and must use alternate routes until further notice.
