Thelma the sloth bear has been with Sunset Zoo for over 15 years, and is now leaving for new horizons in Montgomery Alabama. Zookeeper Denise LeRoux described Thelma as “a handful”, but LeRoux says she will miss her as she heads to her new home.
On Sunday LeRoux and Sunset Zoo “Sprouts” children’s program gave Thelma a big send off by creating a huge box of presents to tear into, and even a hello Kitty pinata as part of the events. People lined the edges of the enclosure as Thelma, and her friend opened their presents and enjoyed the treats inside.
