The State Supreme Court heard two cases with Riley County connections Tuesday morning, but it will likely be a while before an opinion comes back. As previously reported, Luis Aguirre is is appealing his life sentence in the September 2009 murders of his girlfriend and one year old son.
Another case that was heard before the Supreme Court immediately after Aguirre’s was Domingo Soto, who also was sentenced to life in prison in Riley County District Court, with his sentencing in December of 2012. Soto is serving time for aiding and abetting the first degree murder of Steve Freele in December of 2011 after the body was discovered beside a road in rural Riley County in the 5200 of North 48th Street. Soto’s attorney at the time, Richard Seaton Jr., was denied a motion for a new trial.
Soto was also charged with possession and intent to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana.
