    Commissioners View Draft Comprehensive Plan

By KMAN Staff on November 20, 2014 Manhattan, Pottawatomie County, Riley County

joint city county 11-20Four main areas were outlined in the Manhattan Urban Area Comprehensive Plan, as potential growth areas.

Riley, Pottawatomie, and Manhattan City Commissioners had the opportunity to view the draft plan during their joint meeting Thursday afternoon.

Individuals from Clarion Associates shared details about the four areas-U.S. 24, Blue Township, areas around K-State’s campus, and the McCall/North 4th street extension.

Commissioners took a poll on each of the areas to see if they were in support of looking into growth in the different locations.  There were five options to choose from during each question:  very strong, strong, some reservations, do not support, or not sure/no opinion.

A majority of the commissioners were either in “very strong” support or in “strong” support of all four areas.

The commission also discussed other growth areas not included in the plan-around the Bluemont corridor and a proposed downsizing east of City Park.
