Colburn Plans to File for Re-election to USD 383 School Board

With less than a week before the election filing deadline, more candidates are making their intentions known, including incumbent USD 383 School Board member David Colburn. He told KMAN his desire to serve another term stems from the fulfillment he gains from the experience.
“I’ve really enjoyed my service on the board,” Colburn said in a phone interview Thursday. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s very rewarding work.”
Although Colburn said he’s enjoyed his time on the School Board, he added that he believes his prior knowledge of the issues at hand will allow him to best serve USD 383.
“Our district and school districts all over the state are going to be facing a lot of changes,” he said. “I just feel like my experience and my history on the board will serve the board and serve the community and the school district well.”
In addition to serving on the USD 383 School Board for several years, Colburn pointed out his leadership experience with several other organizations in the Manhattan community, including the Downtown Business District Board, the Aggieville Business District Board, and the Sunflower CASA Board.
Colburn admits it’s disconcerting to be a board member right now, considering the current issues school systems across the state are facing with budget cuts and funding issues. However, he has more than one motivating factor to continue giving his time to USD 383.
“In addition to my long history on the board, I still have a daughter in the school system,” he said. “That’s a motivator for me.”
