Jared Larson of Leonardville filed to run for USD 378 School Board on Thursday, Jan. 22.

Another candidate has declared intent to run for a school board position. After filing his paperwork on the afternoon of Thursday, Jan. 22, Jared Larson of Leonardville officially announced his decision to compete for a spot on the Riley County USD 378 School Board.

Larson said one of the major motivating factors in his choice to join the race were his local roots.
“I grew up in Riley, so I’m from the area,” he said. “I really just care a lot about Riley County and the Riley County School District and want what’s best for it.”
In addition to his current position teaching third grade students on post at Fort Riley’s Ware Elementary School, Larson said his resume also includes teaching at a much smaller school district in Inman, Kans.
“I have a lot of experience with different sizes, but mainly with kids and with school districts,” he said. “I feel like I have good experience in what goes into making good schools and good school districts work.”
In regard to recent turmoil the district has faced, Larson said he’s determined to keep the best intentions of the school at the forefront.
“I want what’s best for Riley County, and obviously I care a lot about that place,” he said. “My interest is just in making it the best it can be and trying to get through these hectic times we’re having and just really help bring that district back together.”
