MHS Girls Fall, Boys Roll Over Washburn Rural

The Manhattan High girls basketball team possibly saw the best team in the Centennial League on Tuesday night at the MHS gym. The Lady Blues of Washburn Rural were off big time wins last week over Hayden and Seaman, and they continued their dominance as they rolled Manhattan 65-45.

Washburn Rural (4-3, 3-1) knocked down 11 of 16 from behind the arc and were led by Paige Cunningham and Lauren Biggs who popped in 20 and 18 points respectively. Manhattan (5-2, 2-2) shot just 4 of 22 from three point range and were led in scoring by Caroline Ballard with 10 points.

The MHS boys bounced back nicely after their first loss of the season against Topeka High, rolling over the Junior Blues 70-42. The Indians (6-1, 3-1) were led by Pierson McAtee who poured in a career high 27 points. MHS was effective on both ends of the floor as they forced Washburn Rural (2-6, 0-4) into 21 turnovers.

The Indians will be on the road at Highland Park on Friday night.
