Manhattan High senior offensive tackle Colton Wagner was selected to play for the West squad in the Kansas Shrine Bowl this July.
Wagner was a first team all-league pick this season by the league’s coaches and helped lead the Indians to a share of their sixth straight league title in 2014. He also paved the way for running back Chris Martin to rush for 780 yards and 13 touchdowns and protected quarterback Erik Prockish, who became the first 1,000 yard passer under head coach Joe Schartz.
Other centennial league players selected for the Shrine Bowl were Tyrik Nas-Carmickle (Junction City), Derrick McGreevy (Hayden), Tony Barksdale Jr (Shawnee Heights), Wyatt Hendrix (Seaman) and Alec Beatty (Topeka High). Junction City head coach Randall Zimmerman is an assistant coach for the West, and Walt Alexander of Topeka High is an assistant for the East.
Thatcher Horak (Rossville), Joey Ferron (Centralia), Jace Freeman (Silver Lake), Andrew Feldkamp (Axtell) and Ethan Fritschi (Hanover) were also selected.
K-State commitment Scott Frantz (Lawrence Free State), who Manhattan High saw during district play, was also a Shrine Bowl selection.
The game will be played on July 25th in Hays.
