By KMAN Staff on February 10, 2015 Riley County

    stock_police_tape Update at 1:45 p.m.:

Officers responded to the median of Seth Child Road above Kimball Avenue when the call came in, along with members of the Manhattan Fire Department.
Bomb technicians were called to the scene as a precaution after the item was confirmed to be potentially explosive in nature.  They collected the black tube, which was several inches in length, and rendered it safe.  After further investigation, officers found that the item was improvised and explosive.  It was constructed from household items to include fireworks.
RCPD Patrol Captain, Josh Kyle said the department does not have any reason to believe the explosive was made to do any harm to anyone.
    Original Story:

The Riley County Police Department Bomb Team is currently investigating a suspicious package located in the median of Seth Child Road over Kimball Ave.

Updates will be made available as the investigation continues. The location of the call is safe for travel at this time.

A press release is expected later today.
