KMAN received news of a car fire in the K-State parking garage Thursday afternoon. Early reports indicated the fire was started by an engine compartment in the car.

A press release was issued by Manhattan Fire Department Assistant Chief, Sam Dameron later on Thursday.
MFD and Kansas State University Police were dispatched to 706 North 17th Street ,the K-State parking garage, around 12:30 that afternoon for a report of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the third floor on the west side of the structure.
A vehicle was found with fire coming from the engine compartment that K-State Parking Services personnel were trying to extinguish. Crews attempted to charge the standpipe system on the parking garage and were unable to get water to the third floor due to an obstructed pipe.
Four fire apparatus and 11 personnel responded to the fire. Two individuals were treated and released on scene by Riley County Emergency Medical Service for smoke inhalation. The vehicle, a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, suffered a loss of $2,000. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
K-State Parking Services officials advised the parking garage is safe and did not sustain any damage.
