Girl Scouts Travel the World for Thinking Day

thinking day 1180 local girl scouts traveled to 14 different countries on Saturday morning.  Well….at least with their imaginations.

World Thinking Day was celebrated by area girl scouts at St. Thomas More Catholic Church here in Manhattan, although the official holiday is on February 22nd.  The day is designed to provide girls with the chance to think and learn about scouts in other countries.

    thinking day 3

Each troop picked a different country to research and present on.  The troops split into two different groups, one to present and one to travel.  Each traveling group had a few minutes to stop at each of the 14 countries.  They also were given a stamp for their fictional passport and a “swap” at each stop.

    thinking day 2

Thinking Day Coordinator, Elizabeth Gilson explained what a swap is.  “It’s just something cool that has a safety pin it and the girls get to collect these.  They are made by the troops and it’s usually a flag or a fact about that particular country.”

    thinking day 4

After the first round of groups visited all the countries, the second group had the chance to make their trip around the world.  Freddy’s Frozen Custard also donated ice cream for the event.

Some of the countries featured were Ireland, Madagascar, Sweden, Spain, South Korea, and Norway.

The day concluded with a friendship circle and singing.
