Arraignment postponed for Fort Riley soldier charged with murder, child abuse

Gavel-150x150 (1)An arraignment for a Fort Riley soldier facing charges for first degree murder and child abuse has been postponed for an additional 30 days.
As previously reported, Alexander McConnell was arrested in connection with a February 2014 incident in which he is accused of killing a five-week-old baby. An affidavit received by KMAN indicated that the infant involved in the case sustained internal bleeding, as well as a bruised lung and broken neck after being left alone with the defendent for just a few minutes.
McConnell appeared in Riley County District Court Monday, March 23 after waiving his rights to a preliminary hearing earlier this month.
His attorney, Lora Ingels, requested that Judge Meryl Wilson postpone McConnell’s arraignment for the additional 30 days to allow for negotiation with the state, adding that a jury trial may not be necessary. Judge Wilson permitted the request, and rescheduled the arraignment for Monday, April 27 at 2:30 p.m.
