Bates Faces Sentence of Over a Decade

By KMAN Staff on March 31, 2015 Riley County
gavel-bwA jury trial was held in Riley County District Court in August for Christopher Bates.  He was later found guilty of aggravated indecent liberties with a child under the age of 14, but was found not guilty of an earlier charge.
This all stems from sexual assaults involving two children in the summer of 2013.
Sentencing for Bates was finally held on Tuesday afternoon, where he changed his plea on two of the counts.  He entered no contest pleas to rape and aggravated indecent liberties.
The father of the victim reportedly spoke briefly, giving the court an emotional statement as to the betrayal he felt by Bates and the consequences suffered by the victim.
Judge David Stutzman ended up sentencing Bates to 155 months, or nearly 13 years, with the department of corrections.  After serving his sentence, he is subject to lifetime post-release.
