    Sunflower CASA
Many of us are familiar with Coach Bill Snyder and his role on a football field, but the well-known Kansas State University Coach has also been recognized in another way nationally. Snyder recently was awarded the 2015 Excellence in Mentoring Award by MENTOR, which is the National Mentoring Partnership.
About 85 people gathered at a fundraising breakfast for the Sunflower CASA Project, featuring Coach Snyder. Sunflower CASA Executive Director Jayme Morris-Hardeman tells KMAN Snyder’s message fits in with CASA’s mission.Morris-Hardeman indicates Snyder stressed mentoring involves studying goals and tying life priorities into those goals with an action plan. She adds Coach Snyder’s message about mentoring his football players connects directly with what CASA volunteers do with the young people they’re responsible for.

Sunflower CASA served 137 abused and neglected children in 2014 with 78 CASAs.Volunteers contributed to more than 2,300 hours of service and drove over 24,000 miles.

Morris-Hardeman was pleased with the turnout at the fundraising breakfast and said it was a real nice tie-in with work that her CASA volunteers do as mentors for their youth.
