Continuing a previous work session, the Riley County Commission held another capitol improvement project (CIP) work session during their Thursday meeting. Commissioners viewed the non-funded projects list, which includes both construction projects and equipment purchases.
The intention, for commissioners, is to still activate projects and purchases for the current year using CIP funds. During the previous work session, the commission asked department heads for their top priorities.
Budget and Finance Officer, Johnette Shepek mentioned there is just over $592,000 to activate for 2015 projects.
Commissioner, Robert Boyd suggested Shepek double check on bond options for a few different projects and look into pricing for lease purchases on EMS’s needs for two ambulances. Shepek said she will consult with bond council and return to the commission with different estimates for bonds and lease purchases.
Although nothing was officially approved, commissioners indicated they were interested in moving forward with the two ambulance purchases, while holding off on the vehicle purchase for the appraiser’s office. They also expressed interest in improvements to the playground at Fairmont Park.

In other business, commissioners viewed a request for permission to expand the Early Childhood Block Grant Matching Funds for creating six office spaces at the Family and Child Resource Center (FCRC).
County Health Department Director, Brenda Nickel shared this request and mentioned the total cost for the project would be $18,550.20.
The commission unanimously approved this request, which will add six cubicle units to the upper level of the FCRC building.
