Continued Challenges with Sewer Project Bill

By KMAN Staff on April 30, 2015 Riley County
riley county commissionA bill relating to competitive bid thresholds for sewer projects is currently working it’s way through the Kansas legislature.  Riley County Commissioners have been keeping an eye on the legislation, as they hope to get the threshold up to $25,000.
County Counselor , Clancy Holeman said, during Thursday’s commission meeting, the county’s lobbyist is not a proponent of the current version of the bill.
When Holeman and Public Works Director, Leon Hobson traveled to Topeka several weeks ago to testify on the bill, the maximum amount outlined in the bill was $2,500.  This was since upped to $5,000, and currently sits at $15,000.
Holeman said although the amount is moving in the right direction, this bill continues to be “bundled” with other unrelated bills.
Holeman stated he needed additional time to review the bill changes for himself, but would return to Monday’s meeting with more details.

In other business, the commission unanimously approved the 2016 fiscal year adult and juvenile services comprehensive plan grant applications for the community corrections department.
