An initial appearance has now been scheduled for a 20-year-old Topeka man who was indicted last week with trying to carry out a suicide attack at Fort Riley.
Defendant John T. Booker, Jr., is set for a  9:30 a.m. appearance Tuesday in the federal courthouse in Kansas City, Kan.
The hearing’s purpose is to inform the defendant of the charges in the grand jury indictment returned last week.
A federal grand jury in Kansas City, Kansas, on Thursday indicted Booker for attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and other charges, including attempting to provide material support to an Islamic State group.

Prosecutors say Booker told undercover FBI informants that he wanted to kill Americans and engage in violent jihad on behalf of the group.

He was arrested near Manhattan and Fort Riley on the previous Friday.
