    Houston Street fire causes $35K Damage

    Houston Street Fire

    Shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to 1517 Houston Street for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found a one-story
    residential structure with heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear of the structure. The fire was contained
    within 20 minutes with a first alarm assignment.

    A total of 17 firefighters responded on 6 fire apparatus. No
    occupants were home at the time of the fire.

    The single family dwelling received an estimated loss of $20,000 to the structure and $15,000 to contents. The
    occupants of the structure are displaced at this time. The owner is listed as Frank Willis of Manhattan, Kansas.

    The fire cause is under investigation at this time, but initial indications are the fire was accidental.
