It wasn’t like Kansas State’s Baseball team didn’t have their chances on Sunday but when the need for the big hit arose, the Wildcats simply just couldn’t produce.
K-State stranded 12 runners including leaving the bases loaded in the 5th inning and the tying runs on the base in the 9th as 19th-ranked Texas Tech took the Big 12 series with a 4-1 victory on a drizzly raw afternoon at Tointon Family Stadium.
The Red Raiders took a 1-0 lead against Wildcat starter Nate Griep (3-2) on a wind-blown home run to right field by Tyler Neslony before K-State tied it in the bottom of the inning on a balk that allowed Tyler Moore to cross the plate. However, Tech would score a single run in the fourth and tack on two more in the sixth, more than enough for two Texas Tech relievers to battle out of late-inning jams to give the Red Raiders their 25th win of the season and ninth in conference play.
K-State for the third time in the last four Big 12 weekend series won the first game but dropped the next two and lost Sunday’s decision despite out-hitting Tech 10-9.
Kansas State (18-20, 5-10) begins a six-game road trip on Tuesday with a trip to Lincoln to take on Nebraska. The Cornhuskers won the first meeting between the two teams in Manhattan on April 7 5-4 in 10 innings. First Pitch at Hawks Field is set for 6:35 p.m.
