    2015 State Track and Field Championships Recap

    The Manhattan High boys track team was the story of the weekend in Wichita. The Indians finished in a tie for 2nd place with Lawrence Free State with 57 points. Olathe East won boys 6A with 62 points.

    The MHS boys got a pair of gold medals from Michael Melgares who finished at the top of the 1600 and 3200 M Run. Jackson Schroeder finished 2nd in the 3200 M and 5th in the 1600. Those two alone accounted for 32 of Manhattan’s 57 team points. Chris Martin finished in 2nd place in the 400 M dash. Brandon Religa finished in 2nd place in the 800 M run which was a huge boost towards the end for the Indians.

    Other notable finishes for the MHS boys – Kaden Frasier finished 7th in the triple jump. Joshua Haus finished 8th in the javelin and 13th in the Discus.

    The Manhattan High girls finished with 16 points which was good for 17th place. Cara Melgares 7th in 1600 M Run, 9th in 800 M Run and 5th in Javelin. Megan Ochoa 14th in 1600 M Run. Kylie James 3rd in Discus.

    *Notable finishes for local athletes*

    Blue Valley – Kathryn Hutson 12th in 1A 3200 M Run. Georgia Hatesohl 8th in 100 M Hurdles, 14th in Pole Vault. Chase Carey 6th in 1600 M Run, 7th in 800 M Run.

    Frankfort – Brodric Shirley 7th in 1A 3200 M Run, 7th in 3200 M Run. Lance Ross 14th in Shot Put. Derek Kraushaar 15th in Shot Put, 14th in Discus. Rylen Bailey 13th in Pole Vault. Sheldon Parthemer 5th in Pole Vault.

    Riley Co. – Abigail Collins 13th in 3A 3200 M Run. Brice Brummett 7th in Javelin.

    Rock Creek – Holly Forrester 6th in Long jump. Rachel Forrester 4th in Pole Vault. Hayden Schlochtermeier 3rd in Long Jump.

    Wamego – Alllison Seufert 3rd in 800 M Run. Christopher Willette 5th in 300 M Hurdles. Joseph Holley 7th in 300 M Hurdles. Brooke Woodward 8th in Javelin. Michael Bryan 8th in Shot Put. Hunter Loewen 9th in Javelin.
