Aguirre may get a new trial… reaction from Riley County DA

    Luis Aguirre

A brutal double murder led to a trial which convicted Luis Aguirre of murdering his ex-girlfriend Tonya Maldonado and their 13-month-old son Juan in August of 2012.  Now the Kansas Supreme Court may be ordering a retrial in the case.  In 2012 Riley County district attorney Barry Wilkerson expressed his belief that justice had been served over the conviction, and life sentence without parole received by Aguirre at the conclusion of the trial.

In light of the recent activity in the case Wilkerson released this statement to the press,”I have the utmost respect for the Kansas Supreme Court and the dedicated Justices who serve on the Kansas Supreme Court regardless of any decision in an individual case.”

1350KMAN.com will continue to follow the case, and bring updates as they become available.
