TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Uber says it has been shut down in Kansas. It put a note to that effect on its app for Kansas users Tuesday after the state Senate voted to override Governor Sam Brownback’s veto of new rules on ride-booking companies. The measure makes drivers get more insurance and a KBI background check.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A committee of Kansas lawmakers has advanced a property tax increase to help fill the state’s budget hole. The senators have voted to raise taxes for most homeowners by $46 a year. But they have tabled a proposal for higher alcohol and tobacco taxes.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas Governor Sam Brownback and legislative leaders have agreed to give five school districts roughly half a million dollars in additional funding. The money approved by the State Finance Council is going to districts hit hard by recent policy changes and unforeseen expenses.

WINFIELD, Kan. (AP) Police are still looking for a suspect in a deadly shooting Monday night in Winfield. Witnesses say a gunman shot two people at a home, killing one of them. The police chief says it appears the victims were targeted by their attacker.
