Late Thursday KMAN reported the story of a 16-year old Manhattan boy who had been missing since March. Now not only has the youth been located but now he is in trouble with the law after his arrest in connection with a series of vehicle burglaries and other offenses.

In March, Riley County Police had been informed that Kyle Nevels had ran away from his residence and had yet to return home after two days. Nevels had been in communication with family via cell phone and reported that he was fine, was staying with friends, and would not be returning home. Nevels’ runaway status was ultimately forwarded to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

According to a press release from RCPD, early Friday at approximately 1:20 a.m. officers were dispatched to the area of the 2500 block of Candlecrest Circle in Manhattan for a citizen report of two individuals observed breaking into vehicles. Officers responded to the area and located two individuals in the immediate vicinity and when approaching them they fled the area on foot. Officers pursued the individuals and ultimately apprehended them after a brief foot pursuit. One of the individuals was identified as Nevels and he was taken into custody along with a 14-year old male juvenile also of Manhattan.

After taking custody of Nevels and his alleged accomplice, an investigation ensued in reference to multiple vehicle burglaries that had occurred in the 2500 block of Candlecrest Circle. As a result of the investigation, Nevels was arrested for the following offenses: burglary (vehicle), interference with law enforcement, unlawful discharge of a firearm and minor in consumption of alcohol. The 14-year old juvenile was arrested for the offenses of burglary (vehicle), interference with law enforcement, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and minor in consumption of alcohol. Both Nevels and the 14-year old accomplice are currently being held in the Geary County Detention Center in Junction City.
