Mentioning that he “feels a sense of personal responsibility to help restore America to exceptionalism” given that he has delivered more than 5,000 babies, Dr. Roger Marshall announced in Manhattan on Thursday that he will be a Republican candidate for Congress in Kansas’ First Congressional District. “I am a pro-life conservative,” Marshall stated. “I’ve devoted my career to making certain parents and children start in a position to succeed and now I want to shift gears and make certain opportunities abound for them later in life as well.”
“It is the American entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic coupled with citizen control of our government that created a successful America. Unfortunately, as Congress has been replaced by a political class we have lost the needed connection with the people. We have too many so-called leaders who will cater to a voting index or time on a cable news show and this posturing has given too much power to bureaucratic regulators. Instead of posturing, I will work to demonstrate that Kansans know best how to define a wetland, understand the economic consequences of listing the lesser prairie chicken as threatened, and know how to protect the doctor-patient relationship,” Marshall stated.
“Washington dictates showboating instead of listening. I want to change that. I am an unabashed conservative, but my door will always be open to anyone. I will stand-up for my principles, but nobody has an exclusive hold on good ideas. I will fight for what is best for Kansas families. I will stand for a strong America and I will bring citizen representation back to Congress,” Marshall continued.
“I want to be clear, I am not announcing to run against anyone. I am announcing that I am running for Congress. I am running because I have seen firsthand the unnecessary government intervention in the health care, agriculture, banking and energy sectors. I want to establish an effective plan for turning back this tide. We have to if we are going to leave future generations the land of opportunity America has always been,” Marshall concluded.
A native Kansan and lifelong Republican, Marshall was raised on a farm and is involved in a cattle-feeder operation in addition to having served as chairman of Great Bend Regional Hospital for 14 years. A graduate of both Kansas State University and KU Medical School, Marshall recently completed a year as Governor of Rotary International’s District 5670 which covers 30 Rotary clubs throughout western Kansas. Marshall has experience coping with Dodd-Frank legislation that punishes community banks as he has served on the board of a local bank that has been providing services in rural Kansas for more than 100 years. In addition, Marshall is a Commissioner of the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism. Marshall and his wife of 32 years, Laina, have four children and recently became grandparents for the first time.
Marshall’s stop in Manhattan was part of a 17-community announcement tour over four days that encompassed over 1,200 miles.
