The Manhattan City Commission heard 2016 funding requests Tuesday from seven outside agencies.

The largest requests came from he Social Services Advisory Board in the amount of approximately $393 thousand and the Special Alcohol Fund Advisory Committee $562 thousand. The Library, Flint Hills Area Transportation Agency, Downtown Manhattan, Inc and Manhattan Arts Center also presented their 2016 funding requests.

Additionally, the Commission received a status update on next year’s budget from Assistant Director of Finance, Hillary Badger.

“Still at a 3 percent increase over the 2015 budget.”

The property tax increase for next year has remained unchanged as well.

“Still a property tax increase of $2.6 million dollars over 2015 taxes levied,” Badger said.

The proposed increase in the 2016 mill levy stands just shy of 3.8 mills

The Commission will discuss the Utility Fund and 2016 utility rates during the 4th budget work session.
