The Wamego City Commission reviewed and approved the City’s annual transfers.  At Tuesday’s meeting, City Manager Merl Page reviewed the list of equity transfers to the Capital Improvement reserve funds:

    • $20,000 to the Fire Equipment Reserve Fund

    • $19,000 to the Highway Fund

    • $75,000 to Water

    • $90,000 to Waste Water

    • $450,000 to the Electric Reserve Fund

In addition, an equity transfer of $555,000 from the Utility Fund to the General Fund was  authorized.

In other business, Page said he received correspondence from HomeServe, informing the City a mailing is being sent to citizens offering insurance coverage for water lines from their homes to the meter.  He wants the public to know this is not sponsored by or promoted by the City.

Page announced a time change for Morris Crisler’s retirement reception from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on June 23rd.  The reception will be held in the Commission chambers at City Hall.

May sales tax numbers are up, with the City up 2 point 6 percent and the County up 3 point 5 percent over the same time period a year ago.

Also, Page issued a Public Notice of the Chamber sponsored Legislative and Business Caucus on June 17th at 8 a.m. at the Columbian Theatre.  He said there may be several City Commissioner’s in attendance, which falls under the open meeting rule.

The Wamego City Commission also recognized the Kansas Arbor Day contest winner. At Tuesday’s meeting, Mayor Cliff Baughman issued a proclamation to officially compliment and recognize Rachel Estes on her achievement in winning the Kansas Arbor Day Poster Contest for the North Central District. Estes, the daughter of Ray and Laura Estes, was a 5th grader when she submitted the winning poster.

In other business, the Commission approved Jol Klein’s request to hold another Family Fun Night in the City Park on June 24th from 4 to 9 p.m. This event is open to the public.

The Commission also authorized the City to sign one-year contracts with both Cintas and Ameripride, rather than longer term contracts. The City rents different supplies from these companies, like uniforms and floor mats.
