
Junction City Police are investigating a child abuse case, reported Tuesday, June 9th. Junction City Police received a report of an alleged Child Abuse that had occurred in Junction City. Police identified a suspect in the matter as Ft. Riley soldier, Brian A. Mastin, 29.
Police received information a short time later that Mastin was possibly suicidal and was located at his home in Junction City at 1515 W. Ash #4. The information received was that in addition to being suicidal, Mastin was armed with several weapons and advised that if police were sent to his home “they will die”.
The first Police officers arrived at 1515 W. Ash at shortly before 1:30 p.m., and set up a perimeter around the apartment building. Police evacuated residents from the area and began a dialogue with Mastin by phone. Shortly after 3 p.m., a Police Negotiator with the assistance of members of the suspects military unit, were able to convince him to come out and surrender.
Mastin was taken into custody without incident and after questioning at the Police Department, was confined at the Geary County Jail without bond pending his first appearance in Geary County District Court. Mastin was arrested on charges of Child Abuse, and Criminal Threat. He should have his first appearance in Geary County District Court Wednesday.
The Junction City/Geary County SWAT Team along with members of the Junction City Drug Operations Group, Geary County Emergency Management, and Deputies from the Geary County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Junction City Police in the operation.
