The Manhattan City Commission examined the potential increase in 2016 capital improvement spending as budget negotiations continued Tuesday at City Hall.
As it stands, General Fund CIP spending in 2016 is over $900 thousand, which is a considerable increase from roughly $186 thousand in 2015.
The majority of the increase originates from the Public Works and Parks & Recreation Funds for projects and equipment.
“Equipment is approximately $594 thousand of that increase in 2016,” said Hillary Badger, assistant director of finance.
The Commission also received over 19 citizen and board requests for a wide variety of projects.
“Improvements to Wildcat Creek Linear Park, Lee Mill Heights Park, Manhattan River Trail area; some things downtown, such as parking garage and City Plaza renovation; two projects related to the Landmark Water Tower Neighborhood and then getting that on the National Historic Registry,” Badger said.
The total proposed 2016 CIP program stands at 4.7 million dollars.
The Commission will continue its examination of the 2016 CIP program on June 23rd. The Commission will also field funding requests from outside agencies during the 3rd budget work session.
