Occupants described as the Strauss family had self evacuated with no injuries prior to fire department arrival. The fire was brought under control within about a half hour. No injuries to firefighters were reported.
Estimated loss is over $80,000 to structure and $ 15,000 to contents. The cause appears to be a propane grill.
The Junction City Police Department, Kansas Gas Service and Westar all assisted with the incident. Battalion Chief Dennis Wetklow directed the operation.
