By KMAN Staff on June 2, 2015 K-State Activity, Local News, Manhattan, State News
The boys are back in town! Boys State of Kansas that is. Over 450 young men from across the state are taking part in the American Legion Boys State of Kansas Leadership Academy, being held at Kansas State University.
The ALBSKLA is an interactive simulation, aiming to teach high school seniors to be the value of democracy and civic duty. Participants form mock governments and campaign for positions at various levels, getting a firsthand look at the challenges faced by those in government on a daily basis.
The group is currently holding elections for state office. Winners of primary elections held Monday,  will face-off in debates Tuesday afternoon with the general election immediately following. Winners of the election will be announced at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Among delegates in the running for state office, is Joshua Schwartz of Manhattan High School. Schwartz identities as a member of the federalist party and seeks the office of Commissioner of Insurance.
