At 4:21 p.m. on Sunday, June 14th, the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to 421 Brookridge Drive for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found a single family dwelling with light smoke showing from the structure. The fire reached a second alarm, due to weather in the area causing other emergency calls, before it was contained within 20 minutes. A total of 15 firefighters responded on 5 fire apparatus with the last units still on scene at the time of this release.
The single story single family dwelling was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Loss is estimated at $20,000 to contents and $80,000 to the structure. The occupants were displaced due to the damage to the structure. The owner is listed as Luke and Kennedy Rogers of the same address. The fire cause is listed as accidental due to a lightning strike.
The Manhattan Fire Department would like to remind citizens that if your house is struck by lightning, or you think it may have been struck by lightning, exit the house and call 911 immediately to have firefighters ensure there is no fire.

The Manhattan Fire Department was called out Sunday evening to a reported lightning strike which caused an attic fire in the 400 block of Brookridge Drive. No injuries were reported or dollar estimates of damage at this time.
