Since it began in 1996, the Country Stampede music festival has seen annual rises in attendance and excitement. Bringing the best and brightest stars to the Little Apple on a yearly basis means that, for many, their first Stampede will definitely not be their last.
Jessica Smith and Maddie Winkler, both from here in Manhattan, had come to the Stampede for several years on General Admission tickets. This year, they’ve upgraded to VIP, which means a reserved seat closest to the stage along with meals and beverages. When asked why the Stampede is a must-see event, Winkler said “it’s unlike anything you’ll ever see in Manhattan. People come from all over. It’s a big event”, she said, “that’s why it’s so fun”!
A review of license plates in the Tuttle Creek Park lots would confirm Winkler’s statement. Plenty of Kansas tags sit side-by-side vehicles bearing Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, Texas, and many other state registrations.
Noah Johnson, a five-year Stampede attendee from Waverly, Kansas, says that it’s “the great music and the great atmosphere” that keep bringing him back to Manhattan every June. And if you haven’t taken in at least one day of one Stampede, Johnson has some excellent advice for you.
“Everybody should come at least once”, he said.
