Riley County Police indicated officers recovered a pyrotechnic mortar or firework. It reportedly was disposed of properly and was not a danger.

The Manhattan Fire Department and Hazmat units responded to a report of a suspicious package at around 4:30 Tuesday afternoon behind a residence on Bertrand Street near the intersection of Manhattan Avenue.
People were asked to avoid the area while authorities investigated.
