    Cox sentenced to 155 months

    Riley County District Courthouse

Riley County District Court Judge Meryl Wilson sentenced 24-year-old Lamont Cox of Manhattan to 155 months in prison Monday afternoon for counts of rape and aggravated criminal sodomy of a 5-year-old female who is the daughter of his fiance.

The crime occurred during March of this year and Cox’s bond was set at $500,000.

Cox also had a son born on Aug. 2 to the mother of the victim. Cox’s defense asked for a furlough to see his son, but that was denied. A no-contact rule was lifted, though, concerning his fiance and son, should they visit him in prison.

Cox’s defense read a letter from his fiance — who was also in the courtroom — telling the judge she is “comfortable” with her son being around him. Cox has seen a photo of his son.

Cox expressed remorse for his crime and apologized to the state, his fiance and his new-born son.
